Contact Lens Exams
Our highly skilled doctors specialize in helping hard-to-fit patients. We offer conventional soft lenses, scleral lenses, rigid gas permeable hard contact lenses, hybrid contact lenses or custom contact lenses to accommodate patients with spherical, astigmatism, multifocal refractive needs and custom fit various corneal conditions like dry eye, keratoconus, post-lasik ectasia or corneal scarring where vision may not be optimal with glasses.
Scleral Lenses
Scleral lenses are large diameter rigid gas-permeable (RGP) lenses, sometimes are known as “hard” lenses, custom designed to vault over the entire surface of the cornea and rests on the sclera “white part” of your eyes, allowing it to morph over an irregular cornea into a smooth surface to correct for residual refractive error. Additionally, the fluid reservoir that sits between the scleral lens and the cornea can provide relief for patients with severe ocular disease and may help the surface to heal. And because the sclera is not as sensitive as the cornea, you are less likely to notice them when they are in. With proper fit, patient can achieve comfortable and clear vision with corneal conditions that may not be suitable for conventional soft contact lenses.
Conditions suitable for scleral lens:
Severe Dry Eye
Corneal Irregularities or damaged cornea caused by:
keratoconus
corneal ectasia
Pellucid Marginal Degeneration (PMD)
Sjogren’s syndrome
Post surgical corneal issues:
post-LASIK, PRK, RK or Smile procedures
post-corneal transplant
Non-surgical solution for patients with:
myopia
hyperopia
astigmatism ( scleral lens can effectively neutralize 90% of either the irregular or high corneal astigmatism)
presbyopia
Overnight Orthokeratology lens (OrthoK)
Orthokeratology is a non-surgical, reversible procedure to reshape the front surface of the eye while you sleep. The OrthoK lens is especially designed to fit your cornea, so the patient can have functional vision without glasses or contact lenses. The cornea shape and vision will reverse back to baseline when you discontinue to wear your nightly OrthoK lens. Patients can expect improvement of vision from one week but it may take more time, depending on the patient’s prescription, to reach maximum final correction. When optimal vision is achieved during the day, the patient will wear the final retainer OrthoK lens nightly.
Effective myopia management, especially in children*
Convenient functional vision without day time wear of contact lenses or glasses
Non-surgical and reversible vision correction
Clinically proven treatment
Reversible treatment.
*An evaluation is necessary to qualify all patients if they qualify for this treatment option.
Conventional Soft Contact Lenses for Myopia, Hyperopia, Astigmatism and Presbyopia
Patients who have been diagnosed with myopia (inability to focus on far objects), hyperopia (inability to see close more then far), astigmatism (corneas shaped more asymmetrically), or presbyopia (inability to see close objects) may want to consider contact lenses that will correct for these conditions.
What are some of the signs you may need these types of correction?
Your vision with your current contact lenses feel more blurry then your glasses at all distances, and/or with glare and halos.
Or you are having more trouble reading close-up clearly and efficiently with your contact lenses.
Please call us for a consult if you are noticing a change in your vision lately.
